Now that the first buds of spring have bloomed, I think more of us are coming out of that cold-weather fog and venturing out into the sun. I’m for sure feeling better about being outside and finding a new routine. Seeing my pups laying out in the sunshine, smelling the flowers, looking at all the new life in the gardens - it all helps to spark new ideas and creativity. 🌱

Taking time to think about senior pets today - I've heard from quite a few clients and friends whose pets are getting older, maybe having health challenges, and just slowing down lately.

Older pets are so special, and we need to remember to cherish every moment we have with them. Take the time to play, time to cuddle, time to tell them how wonderful they are. ❤️

And if you get the chance, consider adopting an older dog and making their golden years the best years of their life - chances are those will be the best years of your life too.

You might have noticed that I’ve been a bit absent on socials lately. And maybe that my “fun” work hasn’t been showing up as much. So, let’s talk about it…

Back in September of 2022, I went full-time with pet photography. Which, don’t get me wrong, is amazing. Pets are the absolute best subjects and I love working with them. However, one of the unexpected consequences of leaving a daily office job was that some mental health issues that I’ve always just lived with were really thrown into sharp relief. And for the past five months or so I’ve been in a pretty significant depressive episode.

It’s hard to market yourself when you feel like you’re worthless. It’s hard to build your own business when you hate the boss. It’s hard to even see how to move forward when you feel so stuck. So, I’m getting help. I’m taking time for myself and scaling back the amount of clients I’m taking on this year. I’m snuggling lots of dogs.

Despite what this piece suggests, Kipper has been an awesome support system. Pets always are, right? So often when we struggle, they show us that we’re still lovable. They keep us on a schedule and get us out of the house.
-
I want to find the joy in creating art again and would love to create more conceptual pieces about how animals help us with our mental health.
